This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are unique, innovative people who love to learn! This project could be the magic that transforms our classroom into a forward thinking and creative learning environment where the students thrive!
I am a teacher who started in Athletic Training.
Three years ago, I made the switch to include teaching high school students at our school as well. I gained my certificate to teach Biology and I am currently working on the addition of my Health certificate. I have worked tirelessly to improve our science department through staff collaboration and by attending professional development courses and sharing new information with my colleagues. Due to my background in athletics, I have a strong belief that our science department should be like a sports team, working together to improve our service to students. I have assisted with projects such as grants for classroom tablets and I have created cooperation groups for new teachers to be assisted by veteran teachers. Overall, the transition to teaching has been a challenging and rewarding time in my life!
My Project
The Macbook Air will allow me to take the course, "Reading Competency," to enhance my ability to teach reading skills embedded in science courses. This will enable me to incorporate the "Claim, Evidence, Reasoning" activity in the cardiovascular lab. Students will create a hypothesis on the effects activity on heart rates, then they will gather evidence by reading articles and performing a lab. The class will give me tools to use during this lab and others to incorporate common core into our classroom. The laptop will serve as a place where I can save course documents, take notes and a format for creating presentations by using www.prezi.com. Also, I will be taking, "Evolution, a course for educators" through Coursera. This course will assist me with providing information on natural selection and population genetics. The computer will also allow me to demonstrate the Natural Selection Gizmo at www.explorelearning.com over the projector to reach visual learners.
The donations to this project will directly affect the experiences of the students in my classroom.
They need to have a teacher who can reach all types of learners with new information and who is up to date on the most current teaching techniques! The MacBook Air will help me become the teacher who these students deserve! My students are a unique group of people, and they need a teacher who has the resources and information to present classroom material in a diverse and inspiring way.
