Professional Choreographic Work - Michael Nickerson-Rossi
My students need a choreographed work by Nickerson-Rossi dance in which he creates a cohesive work between our charter high school and Nickerson-Rossi Dance.

Dance in my students' community encourages them to reach out and make new friends through creative experiences.
Not only does this bring students together, but it also brings the community to the theatre. Dance is an amazingly unique performing art because it brings people together through the power of movement.
My dance team is one of my favorite classes to teach because they are motivated and they really seek to push themselves to the limits. They have an incredible ability to soak up choreography like a sponge and their group dynamic is very caring and compassionate. My students are eager learners who are diverse culturally and socio-economically. Our school is a college preparatory high school in Southern California with a rigorous curriculum that is high-demanding. Students are expected to rise to the occasion academically despite social and financial obstacles that they may face. Our school is designated low socio-economic status and we are deemed a Title I school.
My Project
"I would like to propose the idea that I blend my company, Nickerson-Rossi Dance, with your students. This exchange will offer an experience that not many students have at their access, particularly in schools with financial hardships. I believe this experience will shed some insight with the caliber of dancer that is needed to be considered for professional working companies.
As a professional dancer that is working intensively, dancing/touring nationally, students will learn that they must bring their best qualities to the forefront. It is my hope to pull some of their best qualities out on stage with my company dancers. The combination of students/professional dancers act as a guide and will inspire all who are involved in this wonderful process."
This experience will offer students insight in to the world of dance, providing meaningful, intimate experiences with professional-level dancers through the process of choreographing an evening-length work from inception to production.
