This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is nestled in the poorest congressional district in the country. My students live in an environment where the high school drop-out rate is well above 50%, yet they push themselves to come to school and be better.

My students come with a very diverse set of academic, socioeconomic, and emotional needs.

Meeting every one of those needs can be very overwhelming. Many proclaim to not like reading, but I believe that they have just not found their just right book.

My Project

This iPad and microphone will help my students create quality podcasts. Recognizing that essays are difficult or uninteresting for some students, recording their thoughts allows for more students to be successful. Discussing literary analysis is a great way to build individual thinking and it helps students to develop new ideas from the thinking of their peers. The iPad will be used to store and edit the recordings. The microphone will be used to help capture the thoughts of the students.

Essays are not a part of everyday life, but discussion often is, especially the skill of supporting an idea with evidence.

Students can present the type of thinking that I would like in an essay in a more enjoyable method. Also, podcasting is a rapidly growing field and these tools will help prepare possible future podcasters.
