This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in the middle of the city, in an industrial district. Our high poverty, Title I school is hidden behind many manufacturing buildings and has very few places for the students to run and play. 100% of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch each day.
We are a new STEM Magnet School, with a focus on science, technology, engineering, and science.
We are creating an environment that encourages unique learning, creativity, independence and cooperative learning.
My Project
My students have loved using the loaded STEM station that we already received, especially the Fairy Tales Problem Solving Kits, set 1. They are so excited to listen to stories that have tied in so nicely with our new science curriculum, and apply their engineering skills in a hands-on way. The second set of the problem solving kits would enhance my students learning with even more hands-on, story-based STEM fun!
My students have been learning the engineering design process through these kits by asking questions, imagining, planning, creating, improving and sharing their designs.
It is truly amazing to see 5 and 6-year-olds work collaboratively to solve problems. I can't wait to see what else they can do!
