Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students come from high poverty, but it does not stop them from being eager to learn. We are a Title I school, and we are a free-lunch campus. They are an exceptional group of students.

I truly have a great group of kids.

They work really hard and have such amazing personalities. They are very resilient, caring, and supportive of one another. I told them at the beginning of the year that we're a family, and they have carried that with them. They often remind their classmates that we are a family and that we need to look out for one another. I feel honored to know them and to get to spend so much time with them, encouraging, supporting, motivating, and reassuring them.

My Project

We are in desperate need of markers to make anchor charts and magnets to hang them up on our whiteboards. We create anchor charts in the classroom to remind us of our learning. Most of my anchor charts are student created and they enjoy using these posters as a reminder of previously taught skills or concepts. However, most of our markers are drying out and this is limiting the colorfulness of our posters. The magnets also provide a way to hang up the posters without using tape and make it easier to move them around the room.

I am requesting assorted toys, including plushies, fidget toys, pop-its, pens, and other items that I can put in our classroom treasure box.

I use these prizes to motivate students to complete their assignments, reward them for treating one another with kindness, and to add more of an incentive for working hard. Our treasure box is very empty this year and I would love to be able to add more rewards to it.
