Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am currently a Special Education teacher and I will be working with students grades 4 to 6. My school is a therapeutic special education school that ranges from grades K-12. Students are emerged in learning in their least restrictive environment and follow their everyday curriculum in a smaller classroom setting. I make accommodations daily whether it be academic, behavior or language based.
My goal is working with students' IEP goals and objectives.
Every student's goals are unique to them individually so I have to differentiate every lesson specifically targeted to their needs. A lot of their goals can range not just from academic but they can also need emotional or even organizational skills to help them manage through their day to day school schedule. I mostly work with students in a smaller classroom setting one one to one.
My Project
I work in a therapeutic setting and I currently have six students in my class both in person and virtual. Every week my students earn points that they can use to go to the school store once a month.
I would like to have a prize box in the classroom that they can work weekly to earn.
Waiting a whole month for the school store can take a lot of work. I want them to know that their positive attitudes, good behavior and awesome work ethic can be rewarded weekly. I have a small prize box now and they get so excited when they earn a prize and I would love to keep it going throughout the academic year for them.
