Prize Bin Galore, Oh My!

Help me give my students prize bin fidgets and toys and classroom LEGO figurines.

My Students

I serve a remarkable and unique group of children who are part of a school population of which 80% are African American and nearly 80% are low-income. Our school has defied so many odds, including attempts to shut down our high performing school. I am privileged to work at a school whose students and community were a primary reason we prevailed in this fight!

My students are incredibly hardworking, resilient, collaborative, and have an indescribable drive toward accomplishing new and challenging things.

As an experienced math teacher, it has always been my goal to not only make our class fun and engaging, but also applicable to the real world. In a class where mistakes are highlighted and part of our classroom culture, students learn to feel comfortable challenging each other's thinking. In turn, this forces them to think critically about all possible outcomes. My students love to engage in math talk for this reason!

My Project

Since returning from the pandemic, I have made sure to make my classroom as welcoming as possible to ease any of the uneasiness or anxious feelings many students have. From individual supplies to flexible seating, I continue to make our room more inviting and a place students look forward to going to. While the classroom environment seems to be set, I'm hoping to restock my dwindling supply of prizes in our prize bin.

I'm asking for sensory fidget toys that students can earn on a quarterly basis, based on either individual or class goals.

I'm also asking for LEGO figurines to replace the ones that have gone missing over the years. In our class, we have LEGO we use during Fun Friday to build, collaborate, and unwind! Students love LEGO time as a class incentive and I'm hoping some figurines will add a bit more excitement to the mix!
