My Students

I teach in a city school where the diverse student population is mostly made up of students from lower socio-economic classes. The school population is largely made up of ELL (English Language Learners) and all students qualify for free or reduced lunches.

Many students' houses or apartments are in locations where it is unsafe to play outside, or the kids do not have adequate adult supervision.

Most students do not get a lot of opportunities to play or move unless they are at school. They need opportunities both inside the classroom and throughout the day to keep their bodies moving!

My Project

My students will use these privacy partitions to quickly create an independent workspace at their desk or a table. It helps many students to concentrate on their work when there is a barrier between them and their neighbors. Also, during testing, students will not be able to copy answers off each other's papers. Right now, the students in my classroom use two pocket folders but they are not an efficient tool for partitions. The folders are constantly being knocked over by the air/heat in the classroom, or by other means. It will be awesome to have a more sturdy partition!
