My Students

I am a social worker, in an urban, 7-12th grade, portfolio-based, pilot school that is part of Boston Public Schools. A growing and diverse community, our school serves predominately low-income Black and Latinx resilient scholars. Taken directly from the school's mission, "NMHS empowers all students to become self-directed, lifelong learners who do well in the world and do well for the world. In our inclusive, portfolio-based school, our students develop their passion, commitment to learning, habits of mind, and essential skills. Our students will become college graduates who work to create positive change and a more democratic and just society."

My Project

As my students return to the classroom for the first time since COVID-19, addressing student's mental health is my top priority. School social workers like myself are being tasked with helping students make sense of widespread trauma, loss, and uncertainty. This year I will be transitioning from the elementary school level to the middle and high school level, and with that need to update my evidence-based curriculum library and resource library to reflect my student population.
