Printmaking with Linoleum Blocks

My students need a classroom kit of printmaking supplies in order to make their first linoleum cut prints.

My Students

My students come to art class excited to expand their horizons and learn a new technique or style. I strive to treat them as if they are accomplished artists, and their work reflects this attitude. It can be seen at our local library on a consistent basis.

Our school has a unique teaching model focusing on life-long learning.

Students master each learning benchmark before moving to the next level. Our school is part of a high-performing network of schools in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. The majority of our students are Hispanic, African American, or white. We receive free breakfast and lunch and school-wide Title I services.

My Project

My students in grades 3-8 have learned the basics of art and are ready for a new challenge. I would like to pass on my skills and knowledge of printmaking, my studio concentration as an undergraduate, to my students.

Printmaking is an art process that has been used since prehistory.

The students will benefit from printmaking across other disciplines. It involves a lot of thinking and planning, of careful attention to detail, and precise decision-making to get to the final project. These skills are an asset in any domain.

With a class set of printmaking tools and supplies my students will learn this age-old process and be able to share it with the community. After designing and cutting one Lino-block they can print it numerous times to be displayed simultaneously at school, in our local library, and at home. They can experiment with printing it in different colors too.
