My Students

I work in West Philadelphia where the families have very limited resources to help support their children's literacy needs. Recently, I had the chance to revitalize the school library. For years, this space has not been used, and our students have been thrilled to experience a transformed space for learning, listening, and reading.

Students at our school come to class without pencils, paper, and folders, and many times arrive without having eaten breakfast.

We are a K-8 school with approximately 800 students.

The students I teach are excited to learn and happy to be a part of our school community. However, materials and supplies are almost non-existent and need to be purchased by the teachers. Students here love to read and need all the support they can get.

My Project

At the moment we are learning from home, but my students are in desperate need of books and literacy and phonetic development. They do not have the resources that a lot of students have and will need extra materials and resources to do their work.

A printer can be leveraged to create interactive visual aids for use in both a home classroom and in the school classroom.

As well, it helps with complex concepts for our scholars and/or questions that may arise while they are learning new pieces of knowledge.
