This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are happy, hardworking first graders who love school and really embody the joy of learning. They are immigrants or the children of immigrants and are mostly second language learners. The children attend a medium-sized, urban elementary school which cannot afford to provide all of the resources that we might want to share with them. Unfortunately, their parents are often unable to provide these extras either. As teachers, we believe that our kids deserve to have all the same experiences and opportunities as their more well-off counterparts. The kids are eager to learn, and it is our responsibility to help them succeed.
My Project
One of the most exciting things I get to see as a teacher is the pride on my students' faces when they present a project they've created. With the iPad and similar handheld devices, my kids are able to work on projects anywhere, even on field trips. Now they need a printer with extra ink so they can publish those projects.
Imagine how excited my students will be to present a finished, colorful presentation that shows what they have learned.
Increasingly, my students use technology to complete their projects, and the tech they use is often tablets and phones. Unfortunately, most of our printers are incompatible with those devices. It is important for the students to be able to publish and share what they have created. A wireless color printer will make that publishing possible.
My students are an energetic, inquisitive bunch of 2nd graders. They are eager to learn and excited to share that learning with their classmates. Unfortunately, many of the resources that would make that learning and sharing dynamic and extra motivational are unavailable to them. We are a medium-sized, urban, public school in California. Our students are first and second generation Americans, the children of hardworking parents who are struggling just to make ends meet. There is no money for the latest technology at home or, due to state and federal budget cuts, at school. My students deserve the same chances and resources as students from more privileged backgrounds.
