My Students
The students I teach are between 9th and 12th grade. The students in my class have a clinical diagnosis of severe emotional disturbance. They are in a single classroom all day because they have a hard time interacting with peers and adults.
I am entering my 8th year as an ED teacher, and my students are the most inspirational students I know.
They all have hardships at home. Their lives are filled with poverty, drugs, gangs, and other difficulties. Our school is a career tech high school, and all of our students are being educated to be career and college-ready.
Typically, my students are referred to as the "Bad Students," which is the farthest from the truth. They need someone on their side. In our class, we have created that space for our students. Now that they feel comfortable with us, we want to give them the same opportunities as their peers. We believe in them.
My Project
Money makes the world go around, unfortunately, in today's society. The future promises nothing different. It is essential we prepare kids to be successful in the future, not just in reading, writing, and arithmetic, but with life skills that will be used every day, including financial knowledge.
By setting up real-life situations, we are preparing students to thrive in the future.
It is my hope to show students not only the skills used in preparing various products, but to also show them the steps of running a successful business, including setting price points, calculating profit and loss, marketing, and other good business practices.
