Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a large Title I school district where most of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The students face daily challenges that include poverty, housing conflicts, unstable households, violence, and crime. However, these students are extremely special and unique, they light up the hallways with their joy of being in school -- even more so after 18 months away from their friends and teachers during this pandemic. In spite of the challenges we all faced, the students remained enthusiastic and completed fantastic works of art. There were those students who had a very hard time being away from school which is one of the motivating factors of my project.
My Project
Our school has a large autistic and special education population whose fine motor skills present challenges. They, along with our general education students, feel a sense of success and accomplishment when they express themselves through digital art. You can imagine how rewarding it is to see the students’ faces light up with pride when they see their art on display. A color printer will help to create an exciting art gallery with large, bright, eye-catching displays of artwork along with printed banners and signs. This will also keep them interested in learning how to use new and exciting digital platforms.
