My Students
My students are enrolled in the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) program, which is a part of the Special Education Department. Each student has an education plan to outline their individual goals. My class is designed to help some of the smallest learners in our district achieve their social, emotional, individual, and academic goals. Some students in the ECSE program are nonverbal, while some communicate through speech, sign language, and/or communication devices.
Each of my students is unique and spectacular in their own way!
My students learn through sensory activities, hands-on instruction, songs, and learning through play. Their smiles and whimsical giggles let me know they are enjoying what they are learning. We spend each day focusing on meeting our learning goals and having fun while we do it!
My Project
My students have disabilities and require visuals that help them understand and learn. It is important that the visuals are in color and realistic so that students can connect their learning to the real world. Some of the visuals with pictures that we use include adapted books, daily schedules, step by step visuals with pictures of concepts we are learning such as handwashing and academic skills. A printer in the classroom setting would provide a prompt way to print the materials my students need and will give them access to visuals that are important to their learning.
