I work at a beautiful school in Miami. Besides being the reading coach, I also teach reading and writing and facilitate the entire student body from Kindergarten up!
Our fourth and fifth-grade reading students will have multiple writing assignments, utilizing figurative speech in the upcoming school year.
Many have composed beautiful stories and poetry, but they are written mostly by hand in their journals. I am requesting a set of 60 new composition books for the new students who will be starting in August.
I am also requesting one case of printing paper. Not only does seeing their stories in print, enhance the presentation of their written work, but learning to type saves time, allowing their dictation to keep up with the speed of their thoughts, "typing does improve visual motor integration as the eyes guide the hands," explains Yoder.
Being able to print out the stories and poems they have created would not only boost their self-esteem and pride in their work, but they would be able to print what they have completed. I would like to request four cases of 8 x 11.5-inch copy paper so that I can print out student handouts and their typed work/compositions.
We can also publish and post physical copies of their best works. My students are hard workers and many prefer an actual copy of the assignment and saving it online.
