A typical day in our school is full of learning experiences. The teachers don't just provide our students with lessons; we provide them with learning experiences. By the end of the school year, we strive to have all of our students to be full of the necessary information to make them successful in the real world.
We are a Title I School that ninety-nine percent of my students are African American from many diverse backgrounds including English Language Learners, military families, to single families.
These factors don't phase them. When you look at them you may see children who have already led a hard life and come from even harder neighborhoods. I would describe my school as a hidden gem. I think it provides a safe haven for children, who are otherwise faced with tasks, responsibilities, and experiences that far exceed their years in maturity and experience. My school is the place where many of these children come for a meal, serenity, and more.
I am a committed Baltimore City Public Schools community schools coordinator that is willing to work hard to be a great resource for the teachers and students, however, I cannot do it alone.
My Project
As educators, we try to meet student and family needs outside as well as inside of the classroom. We have been able to provide Chromebooks to our students, but many of our families do not have printers at home. Even still, students (especially middle school) are asked to turn in typed pages for several projects. Also, parents need a way to print or copy important documents that need signatures or for when hard copies are requested.
It would be the only printer in the school to be used solely for students and parents so that they can print, copy or scan their documents.
We would also be able to print photos from our annual Daddy/Daughter and Mother/Son events on-site, to be taken home at the end of the evening.
Having this printer would be an incredible help to our students and their families.
