Printers for Communication:I Have Something to Say!
Help me give my students a color printer for communication during virtual learning!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Davis's classroom raised $274
This project is fully funded
My Students
I teach preschool through 12th-grade language skills to students with a variety of intellectual and sensory impairments in our school's autism spectrum disorder program. My classroom is about building communication skills through various ways (pictures, sign language, verbal skills, and social groups).
My students have limited to no verbal skills and are unable to communicate within their environment.
The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.
My students are in an urban school where 95% receive free lunch and have limited, if any, access to communication devices
My Project
I teach students from pre-school through 12th grade with Autism Spectrum Disorders with a variety of intellectual and communication skills. My students have very limited to no verbal skills are unable to communicate via traditional methods. My students are in an urban school in Detroit where 95% receive free lunch and have limited, if any access to communication devices.
My classroom focuses on building communication skills through various ways (pictures, communication boards, sign language, social stories).
Since the mandated school closure in 2020, my students have received all of their instruction online with the assistance of their parents or caregivers, which limits their social interactions and communication opportunities. With my students learning from home, they need any and all communication tools!
Anyone who has had difficulty communicating knows how frustrating this can be!
Therefore, it's important that my students have a way to make their wants and needs known not only in school, but at home as well.
As a result, they need something to help them communicate right away and many students learn better with visual aids. These visual need to be printed on a high quality printer so that they have a realistic visual aid to assist them.
By purchasing a color printer, my students use vocabulary/communication boards, social stories, and picture books made specifically for them to help them communicate, learn new vocabulary, and participate in their virtual learning and in their homes. It will also help them increase social skills so they can communicate during online learning!
