Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Please Help! Our printer passed and we're in need of a new one. I am a second grade transitional teacher in one of the urban areas of Illinois. Our school is one of the high poverty schools in Illinois. Most of our students come from low income families. In our class, learning ranges from the content aligned by the Illinois Board of Education to everyday life lessons.

In my class, I have students that come from a non-English speaking background and apart from teaching them the required content I start to transition them into English. Most of my students are born here but to parents that come from other countries. In our class we utilize all the resources possible having in mind that they may not be available outside of school. I try to give and show the students all of the things that are available and how they should be appreciative that we even have these. Many of my students are at different levels. The use of the computer is very helpful. I am able to find just the right activities at the right levels for each of the students. Printing out just a couple of sheets for each group of students is very helpful. They can take home work that is at their instructional level and that they will benefit from.

We are in dire need of a working printer and ink. This will help the students take work home for practice that is at their instructional level. It will also help them take home research information they can print from the Internet to complete research papers on the topics that interest them and on topics that have been discussed in class that they would like to further explore.

If you would support this project please be assured that you will be an intricate part in helping these students bridge the levels of learning that they need to reach. Also know that they will definitely appreciate the learning that will be taking place because of YOU!
