My Students
Our school is located in a town that is the home of an Air Force base. As a result, I have the joy of teaching students who have been here all their lives, as well as students from all over the world who come from different walks of life. They bring many different experiences (along with enthusiasm and humor) to the table and fascinate me on a daily basis. They are fantastic young people with bright futures and they are extremely eager to learn.
My goal in teaching middle school chorus is to give my students the tools necessary to empower them to be lifelong music makers.
I want them to have as many opportunities to make and perform music as they possibly can. We sing many in different styles and languages and incorporate music from different cultures into our repertoire each year. I currently teach 165 musical students in grades 6-8 Chorus classes and also teach one class of 6th Grade Music Appreciation.
My Project
Our chorus classroom does not have a printer and without one, we sometimes struggle with immediately getting the materials we need. Need another copy of the assignment? How about another permission form for the upcoming field trip? Or what about that rehearsal schedule that is so crucial to have for planning purposes? Anytime anything extra is needed, a student has to leave the room and go to another classroom, interrupt that teacher, and get the papers. If that cannot happen, students have to wait until the next day when I can print and/or copy needed items. With a printer, extra ink cartridges, and reams of paper, I will be able to get students materials in a more timely manner.
