This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine not being able to provide your students with the materials necessary for learning simply because you do not have printer supplies?

Do you know what it is like to grow up in poverty and lack basic materials such as books?

This is the life of most of my students. They have a huge hunger to learn, but without the school providing ample resources and books for them to read, they will not have access to literature. My students are among some of the most fascinating I have ever worked with. They are 100% ESL (and comprise 65% of the school population) and have a huge range of personalities, from fun to serious and everything in between. They have voracious appetites for learning and are always ready to try something new! My students attend a public school in New Jersey. The school is located in a very high poverty and high crime neighborhood. Virtually all of the students I teach were born in another country and have come here with their families for a better life. Financial struggles are common in most of their households and a strong education is key for lifelong success.

My Project

Can you imagine being an English Language Learner and being expected to work with the bare minimum? As a floating ESL teacher it is imperative that I arrive to my classes with as many necessary materials as possible. The ability to print as needed is critical. On many occasions, my printer is the only tool I have for printing and ultimately sharing necessary learning materials. With limited resources at my disposal (and my school no longer ordering ink for my outdated printer), my printer is often my best friend and most trusted educational tool.

As a floating ESL teacher, I am required to be in several different classrooms and teach almost 100 ESL students every day.

Without the luxury of a classroom of my own, the ability to bring all of my materials with me every day is extremely important and essential. This requires me to print materials, resources, handouts, graphic organizers, and more on an almost daily basis. Help me supply my students with some of the necessary tools for learning!
