My Students

Do you remember your first piece of printed published work? My students have not been able to publish their typed writing. They need a printer and ink in order to do so. Having a printer would be a great asset for my students to have in the classroom.

My 6th grade ELA students live in the poorest congressional district in the United States.

They attend a public school in New York. Most of my students do not have any access to computers and printers at home. As writers, the students have technology goals to published a typed writing for each writing genre. Asking my students to publish and print their work is not feasible and they would not be able to fulfill their technology goals.

My Project

Having a printer available so that students could publish their typed word document and PowerPoint work would definitely give my students a sense of accomplishment. It would also build their confidence as writers and provide them with the opportunity to see and share their work in print.

My project is important because due to budget cuts and constraints, we do not have a functional printer in our school's computer lab to print students' work.

Having a functional printer in class would provide students access to print their published written work and meet their technology goals.
