Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a self-contained classroom in NYC for students with special needs. All of my students come from an economically disadvantaged background and receive free breakfast and lunch. The majority of my students are several levels below grade level. Work needs to be tailored to each of their needs.
Some of my students are still learning to read, write, and count.
They need access to materials that are on their instructional levels, but are also age appropriate.
My Project
One of the struggles as a teacher today is limitations on copies and toner we are provided by the school. The only reasonable way to get students the resources they need is to have a classroom printer. Since my class has unique needs, the amount of copies needed are vast.
A class printer will facilitate teaching students in a way that has their individual needs being met.
Help me give my students access to printed materials on the spot, without having to request photo copies in advance, as it is crucial to be able to print scaffolds and differentiated materials at a moment's notice!
In addition, I like to provide my students with a written copy of their goals so they always know what they are working towards. Once a goal is reached, my students move the goal from their desk to a chart in the room so they can see all they have achieved as the year goes on.
