This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students are from a school with limited resources. The Music Program has no budget, and, yet, we get through the year with donations. My students rehearse almost everyday after school to supplement the time they may have during class. Many of my students prefer to stay in the music room before class, during lunch, and late after school.

My students are a mixture of 9th-12th graders who are eager learners and members of the marching band, drum line, and the beginning bands.

New this year is an Advance String Orchestra.

My Project

We currently have a 10 years old printer that is barely printing in our room. Many of my students need to make copies or need to print out their individual sheet music parts as soon as possible so that each individual may learn their part for upcoming musical event. Many of my music students also use the printer for their college application materials. Usually students will need to use the room printer to print their work needed to turn in. Many students stay in the music room longer than any other class and they feel safe finishing up their work in the room.

With the new printer, my students will finally have a reliable, multi-functional printer so that they may have their sheet music available faster and spend more time playing music and less time going looking for a printer.

The music room is located away from many of the other classes and buildings where printers and copiers are available. It is nothing new that my students will eventually misplace their music and the faster they have their needed materials the faster we can get the show running. The more time we can spend practicing the music printed on the sheet music as a group with the help of the new printer.
