Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 6th grade students are part of a new Sustainability & Innovation class where they learn to use STEM skills to solve real community problems. They are excited to design and build solutions that promote equity and environmental care.

My students will investigate the problem of food deserts, areas lacking access to fresh, healthy food.

They will work in teams to design mobile food hubs—small, transportable stands or carts that bring nutritious groceries to underserved neighborhoods.

Using the Bambu Lab P1S Combo 3D Printer and filament, students will:

Create 3D models of practical components such as produce baskets, modular shelving brackets, signage, and reusable packaging designed to be lightweight and durable.

Print multi-part assemblies using the printer’s multi-material capabilities, allowing them to experiment with color and function.

Test and refine prototypes by assembling printed parts with recycled materials like cardboard or wood, improving designs based on real-world constraints like weight, stability, and ease of transport.

Integrate simple solar-powered elements like holders for solar lights or fans, learning how clean energy can support food preservation.

Present their final designs with explanations of how their innovations address sustainability, food access, and community needs.

This hands-on process teaches critical 21st-century skills: digital design, engineering, sustainable thinking, and teamwork.

There is a connection to UN Sustainable Development Goals:

Our work supports UN SDGs including Zero Hunger, Sustainable Cities, Responsible Consumption, and Climate Action by applying technology to social and environmental challenges.

Why We Need Your Help:

Currently, we lack a 3D printer and filament needed to make these designs physical and functional. The Bambu Lab P1S Combo 3D Printer will empower my students to bring their ideas off the screen and into reality, sparking innovation and community impact.

Thank you for helping us equip tomorrow’s problem-solvers!
