My students need an HP computer and printer to publish their pieces of writing. Real writers need real supplies to make their writing look professional.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! I am an 8th grade language arts teacher in an inner city Chicago elementary school. Our students are 95% low-income and most often do not have the supplies to print their writing from home. We also have no budget at school to furnish our students with computers and working printers. Currently, if I needed or wanted a piece of their writing printed, I would have to take it home and print it from my home computer. It's just unrealistic and keeps us from publishing our work professionally.
By 8th grade we need our students to be familiar with the writing cycle and take a piece of writing from brainstorming to publishing. It is extremely difficult to produce authentic writing on notebook paper with pen and pencil. The difference between a handwritten piece of writing and a word processed and printed piece is startling. When my students see their writing printed this way, they begin to feel like "real writers."
With a mini-laptop and printer, I will be able to set up a writing station in my classroom for my students to process and print their work. Right now, we have two working computers and no working printer so their published pieces are all handwritten-unless I take the work home myself. I need help! This donation will help us produce class books of their writing that look neat and professional and keep us in printers and ink for a whole year!
Please help me inspire my students to become writers! When they see their words in printed form, they will begin to feel like the writers we see on our bookshelves every day!
