This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our Dual Language program gives students the tools to become bilingual and bi-literate individuals in both English and Spanish. Not only do they learn to speak in both languages, but they are also learning to read and write. They receive instruction from two teachers in both languages on a daily basis.

Our students are amazing because although learning two languages is definitely an added challenge, many rise up and soar.

Their hard work and ability to transition from one language to the other is truly inspiring.

My Project

Teaching in the dual language program is very gratifying, but it is also very challenging. I am responsible for teaching Spanish to two groups of students on a daily basis. In addition, resources in Spanish are hard to come by. Once I find something, I usually need to purchase and print it myself. Our school has copiers and printers, but in a large school like ours, there is either a long line or the machines are broken. Having a printer in the classroom helps me print the resources right away rather than having to depend on the school machines. I can use this saved time to focus on better preparing in the classroom for future lessons.
