My Project
My students are passionate photographers who love to explore creative ways to make their images come alive. In this project, they’ll dive into the exciting world of Gelli plate monoprinting—a hands-on, process-driven art form that combines photography, printmaking, and mixed media.
Using their own photos as the foundation, students will experiment with layers of ink, texture, and monoprinting to create vibrant, one-of-a-kind prints.
This fusion of digital and analog processes encourages risk-taking, self-expression, and innovation. Every print is different, and every piece tells a personal story.
To make this project possible, we need Gelli plates, printing inks, brayers, photographs, and printmaking paper. These materials will transform our classroom into a creative lab where students can blend the precision of photography with the spontaneity of monoprinting.
Impact:
This project will:
- Encourage cross-media creativity by merging photography and printmaking
- Develop students’ understanding of layering, composition, and texture
- Provide a tactile, experimental process that builds confidence and voice
- Result in a gallery-worthy collection of expressive, mixed-media prints
Students will also reflect on their work and write short artist statements, building communication and critical thinking skills alongside artistic technique.
With your support, my students will explore a new medium, deepen their artistic process, and proudly share their unique perspectives through print.
