This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The teachers at my school are hard working and dedicated to students. For years, we have struggled to set up a learning center classroom to help accelerate progress in reading and writing. Now, the Learning Center classroom is here, but we are missing one big resource, a printer.

I teach at a large inner city elementary school.

My students come to the learning center from grades K- 5 to receive extra reading and writing help. My goal is to help bring them up to grade level. Motivation is high in my classroom and I try my best to keep the lessons as engaging as possible. We have a lot of obstacles to overcome, but the rewards of my job are fantastic. Helping a child learn to read and write is amazing. In addition, because reading and writing are such critical skills, when they improve in reading and writing their scores in all subjects improve.

My Project

I am very lucky to have a class computer to write lesson plans and parent letters. I am also lucky to have access to several laptop computers that I can borrow when I would like my students to type out essays. However, without a classroom printer we face a big printing obstacle. Currently, I have to wait for an available time to visit our school computer lab or hold off until I get home at night to print anything my students and I may need. This creates an inevitable delay.

I know that having a classroom printer and ink cartridges readily available will help things run smoothly in my learning center.

I would love to efficiently print. I also believe my students will be more motivated if they can print out what they have written. Thank you very much for taking the time to review this project.
