Primary Resources in Their Hands: ID Bullying in Schools

My students need a classroom set of 24 copies of "Bullying in Schools" and a research tablet to assist them in understanding and recognizing what bullying is and how to cope with it.

My Students

Over 160,000 children miss school every day for fear of being bullied. Some of my students deal with bullying on an everyday basis. This project will provide my students with the opportunity to learn about the importance of a bully-free environment.

Twenty-four second grade students from diverse cultural backgrounds attend an elementary school in an urban area of California.

Over 55% of the students in this school have been identified as disadvantaged (Title I). More than 15% of the students in this school are classified as English Learners. The students in my classroom do have school-issued e-mail accounts and use the accounts to communicate with others via written, oral, and artistic means. This happens through some access to technology resources, expanded reading and writing experiences, and hands-on experiential activities.

My Project

This project will assist my students in becoming aware of the importance of being bully-free and how bullying can be prevented. The classroom set of "Bullying in Schools" by Townsend Press will help my students recognize a bully and provide them with strategies to use when it comes to being bullied. In addition, my students will conduct research and access multimedia resources on the subject of bullying through the use of an Internet-capable tablet.

With one in seven students being bullied in kindergarten through 12th grades, it is crucial for my students to learn how to cope with being bullied the right way and the importance of being bully-free!

Each student in my class will be equipped with the tools necessary for identifying and reducing incidents involving various forms of bullying.
