Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the Hawks.
They attend an elementary school in Florida.
The majority of the student body is from a low-income background, and almost all live in the inner city. My special needs students are in the Special Ed. and ESOL programs. They work incredibly hard and are incredibly smart. They lack some of the resources that will help them become successful in school.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
My students need primary composition books to use during our daily journal writing.
Writing is such an important part of their learning process, and I would like for them to write in all academic areas using these journals.
They love to write, but it's hard for them write on college ruled paper because the lines are just too small. Primary composition notebooks have a place for them to draw and write, and the space and lines provided are what they need.
My students need 20 writing journals for each subject area: Reading, Math, and Science. Primary composition notebooks have pages printed with solid and dotted lines which help students properly form each letter of the words in their stories. Writing journals will also allow us to keep all of our writing together and see the progress we have made as writers at the end of the year.
