My Students

The students at our school are constantly working toward being stewards of our watershed, empowered decision makers, historians and conscientious community members. We are located in south-central Montana, just north of Yellowstone National Park. We are an active, artsy, outdoorsy and environmentally aware community. Being engaged with our "backyard" keeps us connected to our community.

Our daily goal is to explore learning through personal experience.

My Project

Learners need a way to explore understanding, celebrate and honor the LGBTQ community. Learners need exposure and access to books with main characters who are LGBTQ or still figuring out their sexual orientations. These books portray many aspects of the LGBTQ experience for young kids. Our library is currently lacking equity on this much inquired about topic.

The last place any child should feel isolated, unwelcome or afraid is the library.

Inquiring about LGBTQ rights, histories or stories should be validated with an opportunity to check-out quality reviewed literature on the subject. Many of these 26 titles have been published within the last few years, an indication that more and more people are striving to understand diversity in gender and sexual identity.
