This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager, enthusiastic young artists. They come into the art studio willing to learn, take risks, and explore their creative potential. Through our time together, I have had the opportunity to know them as individuals. Many have come up through hardships in their childhood that are more than anyone should experience in a lifetime - yet, they persevere. A large portion of my school's demographic receives free lunch and other services. When they enter the art room, they find a space that is welcoming and supportive. We use many of our projects to reinforce learning through their academic courses and to support STEAM in our school. My students want to be positive members of society, want to participate in problem-solving, and want to find success in their academic endeavors. My students' eagerness for learning surpasses expectations. I take honor in my role as their art teacher. I hope to inspire, motivate, and open their ideas to creative endeavors.

My Project

Do you remember how it felt to learn cursive writing, remember the feeling of pride when you first signed your name. As we begin to open back up, my kiddos are eager for hands on activities and learning. I want to provide the opportunity for cursive writing practice. It is a skill that schools spend very little time on developing in our students so for this proposal, I am requesting a collection of hand lettering workbooks and assortment of pens and tools. In years past, students have always shared excitement and pride as their penmanship improves. The art room is a perfect place and space for my art student to be able to practice and master their penmanship. When funded, this project will teach students strategies in therapeutic activities that can bring peace and tranquility. The repetition of writing can bring artists into a meditative trance and allow for calmness to overcome the individual. Additionally, many of the writing workbooks selected are of inspirational words and mantras of positivity and gratitude. As kiddos are practicing calligraphy and penmanship, they will be using these words to direct positive energy in their direction. Positive thoughts bring positivity! In addition to all these wonderful moments students will have in this practice, thy will also enjoy the pride is seeing their progression in a difficult task, they can bring that determination to many aspects of their lives.
