My Students

I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.

They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn. I have taught first grade for 5 years and been a member of ATPE. I love what I do and love ATPE.

My Project

Our classroom management runs on compliments and positive reinforcement. I try so hard to point out the positive choices my students make instead of harping on the negatives. Students respond so well to this and want to jump in and find positive ways to compliment their classmates. I love when students lift each other up. We need treasure box items to reward the students who go out of their way to be leaders in our classroom and throughout the school. We need prizes to use as incentives for good behavior. We also have a book wish list and would love to learn through these new books. We have a few ipads that need some protective cases as well.
