This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just beginning their lifelong learning adventure when they enter my classroom. Some have experienced a PreK setting and some have not. These students, at 5 and 6 years old, are learning the skills needed to become successful in their future. About a third of our school qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. The skills they learn in my classroom will build the foundation they need to succeed in various parts of their lives. Self-regulation and social learning are a large part of the early childhood classroom and an area I focus on. These students are bright, inquisitive, caring, and growing every day.
My Project
Over the course of the pandemic we have seen some dramatic increases in the inability for children to self-regulate. We have been working tirelessly on social emotional learning, games and more. One of the best ways to help young children learn, is through play. The skills they learn will benefit them for years to come.
By using the dolls, alpha-bots and other dramatic play materials in the classroom my students will socialize, engage in problem solving, work together and practice everyday life skills.
Some of my students need help with language and communication skills. They’ve been isolated at home and through virtual learning have missed out on some of the problem solving and communication skills of their peers. These dramatic play materials will aid me in helping them with those skills. We know that social emotion learning is very important. Learning how to handle themselves in various situations will help them become better students, learners and peers.
