it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Learning violin or viola for the first time puts the body in an unusual position to accomplish proper technique. Having a shoulder rest improves the students' ability to correctly and comfortably secure the instrument on their shoulder. We currently have shoulder pillows for this purpose, however, they do not provide the necessary contour to provide an appropriate shoulder position, and some students allow the instrument to fall more on the chest than the shoulder. Posture is always a struggle with fourth and fifth graders! Also, the elastic straps are breaking, needing to be re-sewn. New bows to replace old and damaged ones is another source of tonal improvement that excites the young musicians to try harder.
