My Students

"Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second". Mark Ribaudo highlights my dream for my students; for them to use pictures to capture every moment. My "grape bunch" has a penchant for learning despite their many challenges. Pictures can authenticate their every effort.

My students are truly special, not because of their disabilities but because of their extraordinary natures: their willingness to give and share, their capacity for love, their enjoyment of learning, their spontaneity.

Our school is a title one school in a high poverty area where most of the students receive free or reduced lunch. In this setting some of the key supplies that we need are not always forth coming. Still my students have learned how to share ideas, how to collaborate in small groups and how to ask politely for help when they are engaged in independent work. Their attendance rate is very high because they seem to enjoy being in school. I have seen some of my students take a deep interest in our Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) Lessons. They have shown a keen interest in analyzing pictures. But they need to preserve their special moments for posterity. Please help my class with our request for digital cameras to make their learning more long lasting and precious.

My Project

Pictures capture that authentic moment that will last for a lifetime. My students are in a digital era. They need digital cameras and memory cards for group activities; to remind them not only of how they began their projects but also to showcase their finished projects. Our Global Studies Curriculum has a component of at least one trip per unit. We have not as yet been able to take meaningful pictures. My students need digital cameras, memory cards and cases to highlight their many trip activities. My students need to create presentations and slides from the pictures taken of the many events/activities in which they are involved. It is important for them to have memorable pictures that they can share with each other, friends and family. Some of my students may have a latent talent for photography which can be awakened by simply having a digital camera in their hands. Different groups can work on different activities in the classroom with the cameras. Please help us in this quest!

Gift Akita states "if you don't capture the moment, it will be gone forever". Whatever they are doing, whether it is inside or outside of the classroom can be translated into memorable and enjoyable moments with the aid of a digital camera. please help us record our moments!
