My Students
A typical day in our classroom begins by gathering in a circle and saying good morning to one another. I joined the class in January after their teacher became ill. They didn't exactly get along with one another. I have watched them grow unite as a team thus putting forth more effort in all they do.
My class is comprised of 24 students from from very diverse backgrounds.
Being located in a big city such as NY, the kids come from very different socioeconomic upbringings. While some students have computers and printers in their homes, others are simply not afforded those same luxuries. Enabling all students to proudly display their work in the classroom levels the playing field and sends the message that they all deserve the best.
My Project
I will use these items to "publish" the hard work of my students. We are fortunate to have access to computers and a printer. This enables me to teach technology skills that are necessary for success in life. Their final products will be will be typed and placed on the drab-colored walls in our room. Students will learn to take pride in the work they produce because each one of them matters. My students need a laminator, laminating pouches and colored card stock to protect and display their work.
By laminating their work, my students can cherish it forever.
I can already imagine how proud it will make them feel to walk into a classroom that excites and encourages them to become active and eager learners. I often refer back to a report I had written in 6th grade that I was very proud of. My hope is that my students will also turn to the work that they are particularly proud or fond of and use that as motivation to put forth their best effort as they continue through school and life.
