Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Pre-kindergarten program located in the South Bronx, within one of its poorest community districts. Our program works with mostly temporary housing and low-income families, so homelessness is a real concern to us all. The Pre-K program is an essential component of our community. It provides young children the opportunity to gain a solid foundation for which all other academic and social development will occur.
We are a very culturally and socially diverse community of educators who strive daily to create and maintain an environment that supports the essential needs of our young students.
So creating a highly diverse classroom atmosphere is challenging, but will always be the driving force behind our dedication. My Pre-Kindergarten team is constantly seeking activities that focus on getting the children to use their imagination and allow open-ended questions to fuel their quest for knowledge. We also have to ensure their physical needs are being met as well.
As their teachers, it is our job to support our students in a way that their education is not being hindered by just what we know, but is being fostered by activities and experiences that are fueled by their own need to understand the world.
My Project
School is already underway and we are having a blast with all the arts n' crafts and theme based projects we are creating. It sometimes hard to keep up. We work so hard and need to replenish our crayons, we use them so much! To go along with all that fun, we are in need of PPE items masks and cleaning supplies in particular cause the school gives a limited supply. The Portable Voice Amplifiers are needed to be heard over the airpurifiers and other class technology we use daily to keep our environment clean, healthy, and safe.
We started this project because we came to realize many of our students were not getting enough to eat when at home, eventhough we send leftovers from our classroom, its just not sufficient and we want to ensure every child has enough to eat and the parents won't have to worry about those meals because your donations are filling an essential void they are experiencing.
We are in need of the Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup, the Chef Boy R D Spaghetti & Meatballs, Ultimate Snacks Packages, the Quaker oatmeal, the StarKist Ready-to-Eat Tuna Salad Kits, and Caprisun juices to create meal packages for our Preschoolers to have in school and to take home every Friday to ensure they have breakfast, lunch, and dinner to eat On Saturday and Sundays. This is especially true for the up and coming snow days we will be experiencing this coming Winter. This is where you and your donations come in!
