My Students

My students are high-risk 4-year-olds who are in a preschool initiative program to help develop readiness skills for Kindergarten. They are energetic and eager to learn new things. These students qualified "high risk" for numerous qualifying factors. Low socioeconomic, military parent deployed, a parent incarcerated, single parent, English as a second language, or have experienced trauma.

I have two special needs students also included in our class, as well as two English as a second language students.

These kids will learn through play as well as moderately structured activities. We will work on strengthening fine and gross motor control and increasing language opportunities. We also try to develop Kindergarten Readiness skills. This year poses new challenges as we try to adapt to a pandemic and social distancing restrictions in our classroom.

My Project

We are finding a lack of resources in our school system. By providing more resources to our classroom, we can have more hands-on activities, fine motor practice, and make exciting games for our students. We are also hoping to foster imaginative play, as we find many students currently do not know how to play if not directly in front of a device. Children need to know how to play using their imagination which helps build relationships. In my years as an early childhood educator, I have found children lack in the area of rhyme awareness. It is my hope with a hands-on practice tool, they will comprehend rhymes quicker.
