My students come from three different towns that combined make up our school district. They come from all different types of homes and backgrounds. The program was started many, many years ago to serve children and their families that may be at risk in an area and to give them a great first experience at school.
I am the teacher in a classroom of 20 four-year-olds.
They come to school for the whole day, 5 days a week. Our district has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students also receive backpack meals on the weekend. Despite their hardships and struggles, they come in ready to do their best, and are eager to learn. My goal is to always provide the best environment for them.
My Project
I attended a training this summer and the presenter talked about sitting, why its hard on kids, and the increase in negative behaviors that comes because of this. I want to help my students by providing air filled discs for sitting when they are in their seats or on the carpet. The discs help to promote core stability, as well as to improve balance and body posture. It works with kids because it provides the sensory input they need and helps to calm those that may have a hard time sitting. They are portable so kids can take them wherever they need them in the classroom.
