Preschoolers are natural mathematicians. They naturally sort, create patterns, add, subtract, and measure independently. It is a shame that so children become intimidated by math once they get older because most absolutely love it in preschool.
I want to provide my students with hands-on math resources to continue building their mathematical thinking skills.
I believe if children are given the resources, proper teaching and opportunities to figure things out more independently, they will be less intimidated to do what is considered hard. I want my students to learn how to complete a Rubik’s cube because it will help them to think critically and better understand that many things have a process in order to be solved. Puzzles are super fun but they also help my students recognize shapes and spatial awareness. By the end of the school year, it it my goal that most of my students can recognize numbers 1-100 and having their own sets of numbers cards will help us achieve that goal. And the math workbooks will be fun and engaging morning work they can complete after eating breakfast.
