Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is composed of pre-k students with mild to severe disabilities. A typical day in my classroom starts of with circle time and then breaking off into learning centers. However, it can be difficult for students to engage in various centers with only visuals more is needed such as tangibles
My students are 3 to 5 year old preschool boys with mild to severe disabilities.
At the present time, my classroom is composed of 4 students. All 4 boys are active little boys ready to learn and interact with one another as well as with the adults in the room. The classroom these boys walk into is set up nicely with lots of colors and plenty of space to explore the various learning centers. Although the classroom is equipped with various things such as books and puppets, there are various things we still need to continue to develop the students cognitive abilities, sensory skills, language skills and other developmental domains.
My Project
All the materials that I am requesting will be put to use in the various learning centers in the classroom. Learning centers include, math, fine motor, social studies, science, writing, reading, listening, music, block, community, and dramatic play. When students engage in learning centers, they do so for 10 minutes and only 3 centers are in progress at a time. However, when students are given free choice, they can direct themselves to any of the centers listed above. Many centers have materials but there are a few centers that lack materials such as the math, writing, and social science centers. The materials requested will be placed in one of these 3 centers.
As mentioned before, my students are students with special needs these students are developmentally delayed and exhibit difficulty with language development, cognitive development and fine motor development.
Many of the items requested are helpful for the developmental domain of each child. For example, I requested Dough, sorting materials and large alphabet and number stamps. Not only will they begin to learn the numbers and ABC's but using these large stamps will help with their fine motor development.
