Help me give my students a comfy couch and chair set, flexible seating, and the Preschool-K Kindness Kit to enhance my library area and Social Emotional Learning in my classroom.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, I have been working extremely hard to provide my students a safe, calming space within my classroom where they feel as though they are able to get their social emotional needs met while learning. I have implemented a quiet tent with string lights where my students are able to go and take a break when they become overstimulated, however I am looking for your help to enhance my library space even more.
My particular group of students started off with minimal foundational social emotional skills, so I would like to enhance my library area to be more conducive to their social emotional learning needs.
Currently, the library area in my classroom contains a bookshelf where the students can independently choose different books they want to read, and a few bean bags for them to sit on so they are comfortable while reading or taking a break.
By implementing a cozy couch, chair, coffee table, and end table into my library area, it will make the space warm and inviting, and feel more like home away from home for my students. The resource that I am the most excited about is the Preschool-K Kindness Kit. This kit includes so many different manipulatives and activities to support social emotional learning. The Tilt & Turn Liquid Sensory Windows are perfect for when students are having a hard time regulating themselves because watching the metal balls glide through the different obstacles in the water can be very soothing. The Calming Cuddle Ball will be so helpful to have in the classroom for those students that really require that extra comfort and security to reduce anxiety and regulate their emotions. I truly believe that with a little extra support, these students will make so much growth in their social emotional learning.
