Preparing the Next Generation of Environmental Stewards!
My students need a renewable energy investigation kit that will allow them to design and analyze innovative alternatives for a future with clean energy.
How can I get students excited about environmental stewardship? This project is one of many efforts with that goal in mind. Every day my students arrive eager to explore the world around them. They are hungry for knowledge, full of questions, and eager to be the next generation of scientists!
My students are wonderful, creative people that, despite their situation, have a positive attitude in life.
The majority live in poverty and qualify for free lunches. They do not have the background and exposure to best serve them when pursuing college level science. Last year I was able to provide them with a science enrichment day at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. They loved it and I believe it inspired some to pursue their interest in science. However, lwithout the technology and supplies, I fear that I cannot give them the best opportunities.
My Project
With the help of the ecoSTEM Energy Kit, my students will be able to explore the various methods of creating clean energy. My students love to engage in project-based learning, and this kit will help them to create models to accompany their research into methods of reducing our carbon footprints. My students will test variables, using multi-meters to measure the electricity generated by their inventions, and then refine the designs. As a class project, students will assemble a solar-powered room light and phone charger.
This project will give the next generation of environmental stewards (my students) an understanding and love for the natural world.
They love hands-on environmental projects, and this one is designed to encourage innovative initiatives to our energy problems. Our class goal is to create environmental solutions for the future.
