My students are in their first year of middle school. They are eager and excited for all things science. Our Project Lead the Way curriculum provides students many opportunities to solve real-world problems that exist today and may exist in the future. This is an introduction to careers in science, technology and engineering. In order to create the best possible learning environment for my students, I begin with helping them to develop a growth mindset. This enables them to persevere as they learn from failure since all of their solutions are innovative and new.
"Many of life's failures are people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up." - Thomas Edison
"Success is a pile of failure. You're just standing on top of it."
These two quotes are examples of a growth mindset. We have posted them around the classroom and written them in our Engineering Notebooks.
Thanks for supporting my students!
My Project
My students have the opportunity to learn using iPads and Chromebooks but are missing the opportunity to learn using Microsoft products. I'd like to change this by adding a Microsoft Surface to our classroom tools.
I was recently at the optometrist with my daughter and the gentleman doing her precheck work was using a Microsoft Surface with a keyboard and pencil which inspired me to inquire about adding one of these devices to our classroom in order to prepare my students with workforce skills.
As we visited with him about his Microsoft Surface, we could just see his passion and excitement for the capabilities of the tool. He further mentioned that he had asked his boss to consider purchasing this device for his work and now they are highly considering switching all personnel to this device because of his successful implementation.
Since it is my passion to prepare my students for the future workforce, I'm excited at the opportunities presented by this conversation and adding a Microsoft Surface to my classroom!
