My Students
What makes my students special? What doesn't make them special? I may be partial in my feelings because they are "my kids" but my students are amazing on all levels. They have faced so many challenges in their short teenage lives but you would never know it with the way they come into class every morning with a bright smile and a big hug!
I teach students with low incidence disabilities at a low income school in Chicago where all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students have been labeled their whole lives and told what they can and can not achieve. My goal is to change that and give them the opportunities they deserve.
My Project
Most families hope that their child will one day hold a job. According to recent statistics, only about 6% of adults with autism maintain any kind of job at all, and less than that work full time or for competitive wages.
This indicates that many high school graduates with autism are not adequately prepared to work.
Pre-Vocational work tasks are the back bone of any successful classroom. Work tasks help keep students engaged and working and teaches critical skills of independence, as well as, preparing students for post secondary employment.
Nasco's pre-vocational kits will help my students learn sorting, counting, and packaging skills using real life items. This will help teach realistic and meaningful skills to my students.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
