Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school in a low socioeconomic neighborhood, and 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many parents work two jobs and are barely able to support the family.
I have a bunch of awesome students who can't wait to come to school every day!
All my students are English language learners with no resources available at home. They often come to school without the supplies needed to be successful. Our school is a safe place for many of my students, where learning is a priority.
My Project
The biggest shift in education is the transition from elementary school to middle school. Students go from a single teacher to learning the expectations of multiple teachers for the first time. They will hustle across campus between classes. They will be changing for PE and wearing deodorant, and stressing about their first school dance, all while trying to figure out how to do well in their classes. These changes can and will have an impact on their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
My students will be culminating from elementary and will need to mentally and emotionally get ready for middle school in the fall.
The last thing they need is to stress about having school supplies and a sturdy backpack for school. They will use these backpacks to carry all their school supplies such as folders, homework and books to and from home.
Let's take away their worries, so they can enjoy their summer before they enter middle school.
