My Project
I am a middle school ELA teacher and 8th-grade advisor at a neighborhood K-8 elementary school located in North Philadelphia. I work with 7th and 8th-grade students. As with most schools, my students are on multiple academic levels, and my job is to teach them new material while reminding them about past material that they learned. I teach at a Title I school and it is my commitment and dedication to see to it that all of my students have a chance.
My students are creative, kind, funny, and driven.
They want to understand the material. The new curriculum that we are using is a challenge for them to understand. Unfortunately, there is no consistency in the curriculum planning in my district. I want to give them all the resources they need to understand everything I need to teach and be prepared. The headphones are needed for them to complete online intervention programs such as iReady, the notebooks will serve as daily reflective journals for morning meetings, the pencils will be for everyday use, many of them do not come prepared with writing utensils, the ink will be used for their presentations and display their data, and the galaxy rug will encourage my students to silently read in comfort. I want to create a reading haven for my students. I want to give them the opportunity to expand their horizons in all areas of life.
