I work with as a special education teacher. I teach math, language arts, and life skills. I create lessons that encourage the students to explain their thoughts, solve problems without becoming overwhelmed and skills to deal with their sensory overloads.
The overhead projector will be used to display Google Slides, videos, student lessons, worksheets, etc.
The students are encouraged to bring up their work and show how they solved their problems.
I have been at this school for seven years and the current document camera was there before I came. It dims when you shut off the lights and this distracts the students. In order to display student work, the built-in light blocks the work entirely or only lights half the work. We need a new document camera to promote more participation and engagement.
As for the posters, factions, place value support, these will always be used by the students to look at the math wall while doing work and to elicit greater comprehension.
My students have shown more focus and attention to task when they had sensory support, such as fidget spinners, foot bands, and kinetic sand. These help students stay calm when stressed or given a non-preferred task, to assist them in work completion and smooth transitions between tasks.
